Soothwardens is a game about playing someone linked to another person by powerful magic and pursuing a great cause with the gifts the Link awards you. It is about larger-than-life fights, against monsters both strange and familiar, monsters who also maintain a Link unto themselves.

It’s a Luckless Game: There are no dice, no cards, and no random outcomes. This game requires you to use two separate intangible-resource trackers, Heart and Stamina, a handful of special traits, and the aspects you gather in the signature weapon of Wardens, the Dirge. Heart is used to fight and defeat monsters called Breakers. Stamina is used to investigate them before you fight them so that you have a chance of defeating them quickly. You do not want your fight to last too long in Soothwardens...

While the game loop centers on the investigation and removal of magically fabricated monsters called Breakers, the game's soul is in the introspective roleplay encouraged by the Link. Processing what your character feels from their Linked partner, determining how long you stay tuned into the Link, and even the extent to which you're character is honest, all add to the type of storytelling encouraged by the system.
